FAQ

What is a fractional engineering leader?

A CTO, principal engineer, or team lead that splits their time between companies.

Typically a fractional leader will work at a given company for 10-20 hours per week.

How do you find people?

We design our searches based on the geographies, technologies and experience levels we’re targetting.

We typically hear from 100-300 engineers per search, correspond with 30-50, tech screen 4-8, and send 1-2 over for review.

The top of funnel numbers for fractional leaders are an order of magnitude lower.

How do you vet them?

We use a network of fractional engineering leaders to design and run role-specific technical screens.

We do not run role-independent screens.

How long does this process take?

1-2 weeks.

How do you make money?

We provide the engineers and fractional leaders we find as contractors through Forward and we markup their rates.

Our markups range from $10/hour for less expensive engineers to $50/hour for fractional leaders.

How expensive are your engineers?

Most of the engineers we provide range from $25 to $125 per hour.

Most of the fractional leaders we provide range from $175 to $350 per hour.

These ranges are inclusive of our markup.

What type of commitment do you require?

The searches we run are free and require no upfront commitment.

All of our contracts are at will and can be cancelled with one week’s notice.

Can you help us make full time hires?

You can hire the people we provide if they’re interested in coming on full time. This works out frequently with international engineers.

Our fractional engineering leaders can also help to support or drive growth.

What if my company can’t hire internationally?

To bypass logistical barriers to full time jobs, international engineers are typically open to contracting directly with employers indefinitely. Many actively prefer this.

In these arrangements employers typically provide PTO, fixed monthly income, and consider the engineer a full time employee.
